Panic makes people do strange things. Be in control of your income by starting a side hustle now so you don’t end up taking the first job you find if you lose your main source of income.

Freelancing
Do you already have a skill you’re great at like writing, speaking, SEO, coding, etc…? Then freelancing would be perfect for you! There are a lot of great freelancing platforms that you can post your skills to, set your price, and let the offers come rolling in.
You’ve probably already heard of freelance marketplaces like Fiverr and Upwork, but there are a ton of other freelancing opportunities to make money online with your skills like 99designs, Outsourcely, and Solidgigs.
The best part about freelancing is your ability to say no to an offer if you don’t feel like it’s a good fit for you. You only work on projects or gigs that you want! Cha-ching!
Selling video courses online
If you have a passion that you’d love to share with the world, you can create a video teaching people how to do what you do and get paid! No, I’m not talking about a Youtube channel that you have to build up over time, I’m talking about online marketplaces for you to sell your videos directly to consumers.
The best places to do this are Skillshare, Udemy, Mighty Networks, Thinkific, Teachable, and Podia.
Simply record yourself walking through the steps of how to do something and upload it to one or all of the above marketplaces and viola, you’re getting paid to teach what you love!
Flipping items
One of the quickest ways to make a buck is to buy items low and sell them high. Hey, that’s what every store you’ve ever shopped at does, so why not you?
Scroll through Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, Offerup, eBay, or peruse your local garage sales, find an item you believe is undervalued, buy it, and resell it on Marketplace, Craigslist, Offerup, eBay, or your own garage sale. Yes, really, it’s that simple.
If you want inspiration, I highly recommend checking out Gary Vaynerchuk’s garage sale flipping videos on your preferred social media platform. He is by far one of the most famous people that does garage sale flipping. If it’s good enough for a multimillionaire like Gary V, it’s going to be great for everybody.
Become an online tutor
Online tutoring is a great way to earn money as a side hustle, especially if you have a teaching background.
If you’re great at teaching math, science, history, art, or prepping people for upcoming tests, sign up to be an online tutor at Chegg, Skooli, Wyzant,
If your talent lies in teaching languages check out Preply
Pet Sitting
Need to make money fast and love pets? Pet sitting could be a great side hustle to put some extra cash in your pocket.
Post an ad for your pet-sitting services on social media, Craigslist, Nextdoor, or ask your friends and family if they know anyone who would need pet-sitting services. You can also print off business cards and pin them up at local pet stores and other businesses to advertise your services.
Or, download an app like Care.com, TrustedHousesitters, PetBacker, Wag!, or Rover, sign up to be a pet sitter, and boom you’re on your way to making money!
Dog Walking
Similar to pet sitting but with more exercise and a better chance to make more money per hour.
The more dogs you can walk at one time the more money you’ll make in the time it takes you to walk them. Don’t get greedy. Be careful not to overwhelm yourself with too many dogs at once. Instead, you can do multiple walks a day with multiple groups of dogs.
Once again you can use Care.com, TrustedHousesitters, PetBacker, Wag!, or Rover to sign up as a dog walker.
Social media management
Do your social media posts go viral? Do you have the secret sauce for blowing up online? You, my friend, might be perfect for social media management.
Brands are constantly looking to boost sales through their various social media channels. Search for social media management jobs on places like Indeed, Glassdoor, or Ziprecruiter.
The best part about being a social media manager is the ability to bulk-create content and set it up to auto-post at the best times for viewership. Think of how many videos and posts you could make in one day and sit back for the rest of the week while the app does all the work for you!
Start your own print-on-demand company
If you’ve got some great jokes, want to share inspiring quotes, have some great meme ideas, are passionate about politics, etc… then starting a print-on-demand company could be a great side hustle that pays weekly.
You can print your idea on shirts, mugs, pictures, wall art, or whatever you can think of. Print-on-demand companies like Printify, Redbubble, and Viral Style make putting your ideas onto merchandise super easy.
If you struggle with graphic design you can always use Canva or an AI art generator (google AI art generator, there are a ton of options) to create your masterpiece.
Once you’ve got your design perfect, Set up an online store using Shopify and connect it to your Etsy, Pinterest, Facebook, Tik Tok, and Instagram account and start posting.
When a customer orders your item the print-on-demand company you chose will print it, ship it and deal with returns.
Become a mobile notary
This side hustle trend has exploded recently and for good reason. You can make a serious full-time income by being a mobile notary.
Start off by googling how to become a notary in your state. Once you’ve completed the necessary paperwork, paid the fees, and have gotten the certification you’ll need to set up a website so people can find you. You don’t need anything fancy, a drag-and-drop site builder like Wix, Square Space, or Weebly will do. You should also market yourself using all available channels possible like social media, hanging up business cards, etc…
Once requests for your services come rolling in, you show up at the agreed-upon location, verify that the paperwork is correct, stamp it with your notary stamp, collect your money, and move on to the next customer.
It wouldn’t hurt to learn how to do SEO and local marketing to help your online presence in this case. Youtube will be your best friend for this.
Make money with online surveys
Yes, companies will actually pay you for your reviews of products and oftentimes you don’t even need to buy anything, the companies will ship their items to you for free!
There are a ton of companies you can sign up for that offer money for taking surveys, the best of which are:
- OneOpinion
- Survey Junkey
- Opinion Outpost
- Ipsos iSay
- Mypoints
- Swagbucks
Although taking online surveys to make money sounds easy, the honest truth is the return on your time invested is typically not very good. This is an ok side hustle if you need gas money, but it tends to be more of a time suck. I don’t know about you, but I value my time way more than money.
Virtual Assistant
Becoming a virtual assistant can be a great side hustle that allows you to set your own schedule.
You can get started in this niche by joining a gig marketplace like Fiverr, Upwork, 99designs, Outsourcely, and Solidgigs. Once you’ve worked with enough companies and earned their trust you can start your own virtual assistant business and work with them directly to avoid Fiverr’s (and other’s) fees.
Virtual broker
If you’d rather not do all of the virtual assistant work yourself you can always become a virtual broker.
This involves getting virtual assistant service offers from companies, but instead of doing the work yourself you turn around and hire a cheaper virtual assistant on Fiverr, Upwork, 99designs, etc.. to do the work for you. Once they complete the work you pay the virtual assistant their fee and collect the remainder of the fee from the company for yourself.
Freelance graphic designer
This side hustle will be more appealing to people who have graphic design experience, but what if I told you you didn’t need any experience?
This is where Canva becomes your best friend. Use the aforementioned sites like Fiverr and Upwork to post your graphic design gigs. Wow your customer with Canva’s amazing templates.
If you’re struggling to create something specific consider using AI to help you. Tread carefully though, as most graphic designers, who have spent years perfecting their craft, look down on AI.
There is still enough room for artists and AI to live in the same world, as some customers prefer graphic design to be done by an actual human, but you can definitely find people that are willing to take your AI designs.
Drive for Uber or Lyft
This one should be pretty self-explanatory at this point.
Sign up to become a driver for Uber or Lyft and work when you want to. You set your own schedule and can earn some extra money on the side.
The best part about this side hustle is that the leg work of setting up a company, marketing, insurance, and everything else has already been done for you. Simply sign up, choose the customers you’d like to pick up, complete the drive, and collect that sweet sweet extra cash.
The bad part about this is dealing with drunk people. Typically Uber and Lyft drivers make the most money during night/bar hours. If you have a problem with dealing with drunk people and cleaning puke out of your car, consider skipping this one.
Food delivery driver
If dealing with people (drunk or sober) isn’t your thing, you can always deliver food.
Sign up to be a food delivery driver on apps like Uber Eats, Eatstreet, Toast TakOut, DoorDash, ChowNow, GrubHub, etc…
When an order comes in you can choose whether or not you’d like to accept it. If you choose to accept the food mission, you’ll have to drive to the restaurant, pick up the food, drive it to the requested location, and make the handoff with the customer.
Pros: Food doesn’t act drunk and it doesn’t harass you like people can.
Cons: Food tends to tip over in the car (make sure you secure it before you drive) and having food in your car doesn’t make the best air freshener.
Rent out your vehicle
Does your vehicle sit around all day doing nothing but taking up a parking spot or garage space? If so, consider renting your vehicle out on apps like Turo, Getaround, and Car Shair.
No need to worry about additional insurance as these apps offer insurance for people who put their vehicles up for rent. They also prescreen renters, offer support services, roadside assistance, and have an easy-to-use app.
Some people have even turned this into their full-time income, or use these apps to afford their dream cars that pay for themselves.
Renting your vehicle is not only a great way to earn extra cash, but it’s one of my favorite side hustles that pay weekly.
Rent out your camper/RV
This is pretty much the same thing as renting out your vehicle but with a few different pros and cons.
Don’t just let that camper sit in your driveway unused all summer, rent it out and earn money! Just like vehicle rental apps, there are apps specifically created for renting out your camper or RV. The most popular apps are Outdoorsy, RVshare, RVeasy, and RVnGo.
These apps also offer insurance, customer support, and roadside assistance, so you can rest easy knowing that you don’t have to deal with all the headaches.
Although this is also one of my favorite side hustles that pay weekly, I give it a slight downgrade compared to renting out a vehicle due to the seasonality of camper use.
What Are Side Hustles
Side hustles are businesses or money-making activities that you can do on the side of your full time job. They are a great way to earn money on top of your job’s salary or hourly pay. Once you get a side hustle up and running successfully it can be a great way to afford a vacation, a home, a new car, or whatever it is you’ve had your eye on but just can’t quite afford.
Side hustles can also be a great source of passive income. If you put in the time and effort up front to get your side business off the ground, most online side hustles will run themselves with very little effort or just a few hours of work every week.
Some people have been so successful that they’ve turned their side hustle into a full time job. Most people are shocked to realize just how much money there is to be made online. The amount of money you can make with a side hustle depends on how much effort you’re willing to put in. Do you want to make a few hundred dollars a month or $10,000 + a month?
Pick a side hustle today and start earning your way to freedom!
How Can A Side Hustle Benefit You?
Personally, if I didn’t have a side hustle to fall back on when I lost my job, I would have been in a bad situation. This is exactly why you need to start a side business now!
A side hustle can be a great safety net for when things don’t go quite as planned, or it can be the key to unlocking your freedom.
If you are unsatisfied with your current job or career, I highly suggest you start something on the side. Who knows where it might lead?
